Charlie Taben of Wall and Main Financial Advisors, professional company headshot, provides M&A strategies for his clients

Charlie Taben joined Catalyst Energy in 1983, the first owner of private power plants in the U.S., after graduating from Middlebury College with a B.A. in Philosophy. He was then recruited by GE Capital to structure and fund tax-driven utility financings, ultimately leading GECC’s U.S. marketing effort for the Independent Power industry. After working internationally for three years for ABB in similar roles, including leading the development and financing of infrastructure projects and serving as the credit director for their U.S. energy financing unit, Charlie rejoined GECC to direct private equity investments for GE’s insurance business. This role led to Charlie leading Corporate Development for Genworth, spearheading strategic and M&A efforts. Through a W&M Corporate Development engagement, Charlie currently supports Genworth’s flagship public subsidiary, Enact, a global mortgage insurer.  He drives strategic growth helping source and structure partnerships, investments and acquisitions.

He also publishes an APA Substack Newsletter chronicling the latest developments in public philosophy. Based in New Canaan, CT, Charlie can be found on the tennis courts or exercising his eclectic collection of vintage motorcycles and cars.

Before co-founding Wall & Main, Luke Campbell was most recently a Managing Director at a growing M&A advisory firm responsible for leading execution on transactions for clients across multiple industries including professional services, industrial/manufacturing, energy, and healthcare. Luke previously spent 12 years in various M&A, strategy and finance roles at Genworth Financial, a Fortune 500 financial services firm. Luke started as a financial analyst, then spent 8 years in Corporate Development evaluating and executing strategic M&A actions, completing transactions ranging in value from $25MM to over $1 billion. Luke was also Director of Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis, responsible for analyzing and forecasting the company’s financial performance and evaluating and executing strategic decisions at the organizational level. Luke has a B.S. in Finance and earned his MBA with honors from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.

Outside of the office, Luke can likely be found exercising, learning, or enjoying being a dad / youth soccer coach. Luke is based in Richmond, VA.

John Seker

John Seker

John Seker is the CEO of American Power Ventures and has over twenty-five years of experience in the power sector as a developer, equity investor and buy-side equity advisor – participating in the development and/or financing of approximately 3.3 GW of power plants representing ~$3.5 billion of investments. Prior to forming American Power Ventures, Mr. Seker was Vice President of Commercialization and Development for Competitive Power Ventures. Earlier, Mr. Seker was Vice President, Americas for Rolls-Royce Power Ventures, responsible for the company’s development, operations and construction activities in North and South America. Mr. Seker earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Syracuse University and his Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University

Andrew Hanson

Andrew Hanson is a Senior Advisor in Private Capital Markets at Moelis & Company, focusing on debt private placements. Andrew has over 35 years of investment banking experience specializing in originating, structuring and executing hundreds of debt private placements across a broad range of industries. Prior to joining Moelis & Company, Andrew held Managing Director and Head of Private Placements roles at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch. He began his career in capital markets at Bankers Trust. Andrew holds a B.A. degree in Economics-Mathematics from Colby College, an M.B.A. from the Johnson Graduate School of Management and a J.D., both from Cornell University.

Bart Osman

Bart Osman is a Partner of Lexington Partners primarily engaged in the origination, evaluation and management of equity co-investments. Founded in 1994, Lexington is one of the world’s largest managers of secondary private equity and co-investment funds with over $75 billion in total committed capital. Prior to joining Lexington in 1998, Mr. Osman was a director of acquisitions and investments at Reuters America and prior to that he was an analyst in investment banking at Merrill Lynch. Mr. Osman graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in history and from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth with an MBA.

Rick Kleeman, Advisor for Wall & Main

Rick Kleeman

Rick Kleeman is a founding partner of Wheelock Street Capital, a multi-strategy real estate investment firm with a 15+ year track record of outperformance. Before founding Wheelock, Mr. Kleeman spent over 15 years at Starwood Capital Group (“Starwood”), where he was one of the early partners and served as Senior Managing Director and Head of Acquisitions. At Starwood, Mr. Kleeman was directly or indirectly involved in the majority of Starwood’s investments which comprised over 215 transactions within all major asset classes. Mr. Kleeman is a member of Dartmouth’s President’s Leadership Council. Mr. Kleeman received a B.A. from Dartmouth College and an M.B.A. from the Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar.

Mark Purowitz

Mark Purowitz is a retired Big Four Principal, operating executive, entrepreneur and board member with 35+ years of experience driving organic and inorganic growth across financial services, insurance, and professional services industries. Prior to Mark’s retirement from Deloitte, he was on the global executive leadership teams of the $3.5B Insurance Practice and the $10B M&A Practice. Mark led the global Insurance M&A team which strategically advised clients and delivered merger work across the P&C and L&R sectors. He was also head of Strategy and New Business Development for the broader M&A practice globally, with the goal of developing a new Originations business for Deloitte across industries and associated sectors.

Alan Badanes

Alan Badanes

Alan Badanes has spent nearly 40 years in financial services, both in the US and internationally, with a primary focus on the insurance industry. He spent 24 years at JPMorgan Chase leading Insurance Investment Banking teams in New York and London, as an early advisor to private equity and very active with Lloyds and the London Market.

In 2004, Alan joined global reinsurance giant, Swiss Re, based in Zurich as a Managing Director. Over 16 years at Swiss Re, Alan had several roles based in Zurich, London, and New York. Alan was initially in the Swiss Re Financial Products division which included Swiss Re Capital Advisory and Insurance Linked Securities businesses. He then moved to Zurich and led the Market Strategy unit, based in Zurich advising the Executive Committee on go-to-market strategies across all the businesses. After the Great Financial Crisis, he was tapped to lead a newly created Global Business Development function, with teams across the globe, helping clients optimize capital via reinsurance solutions. In his last assignment, Alan joined the Global Life Reinsurance Executive Team responsible for the largest life clients of the firm. He was also a member of the Americas Management Team.

Originally from the Midwest, Alan has a BA in History from University of Cincinnati, and a Master’s in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management (now part of Arizona State University).

Joe Pehota is currently the SVP Corporate Development for Assurant, Inc. Joe leads global Corporate Development activities, including responsibilities for mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships. Previously, Joe led Corporate Development for Genworth Financial and held multiple roles for GE Capital including the Chief Risk Officer for GE Equity. Joe has a B.S. degree in Finance from University of Connecticut and has an MBA in Finance from the NYU Stern School of Business.

Sal Branca

Sal Branca has spent over 43 years in the Property Casualty insurance industry, leading companies and divisions of AIG in Audit, Regulatory Reporting and Compliance.  Sal has managed rate, rule and form filings, data standards, modeling and reporting.  Additionally, Sal has served as President of three surplus lines companies, organized and led the Premium Audit Division and was the COO of Corporate Reinsurance and Blackboard Insurance Company.  He was also a trusted member of numerous AIG Domestic Subsidiary Boards and Executive working groups.

Larry Danielson

Larry Danielson was a Senior Deloitte Principal with over 42 years of experience building and scaling businesses. He founded, built, and managed numerous Big 4 management consulting practices by developing market vision & strategy, building trusted relationships across a large, complex environments. He repeatedly collaborated with global Alliance partners to build joint solutions and to leverage common distribution channels.  As a Lead Insurance Partner at Deloitte, his experiences spans leadership development, customer acquisition, underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims, finance and IT.

Richard J. Burness

Richard J. Burness

Rich Burness draws on over 40 years of experience navigating U.S. and global taxation of insurance companies, honed over decades of immersion in trans- and multinational deal-making – participating first hand in many of the nation’s largest insurance acquisitions. Rich serves as a Strategic Consulting Advisor to Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck and was formerly a senior vice president and global head of tax at Athene Holding, a leading retirement services company. Prior to that, Rich spent nearly two decades at Deloitte, serving nearly all the firm’s major domestic and global insurance clients and leading the insurance tax practice for ten years. Before joining Deloitte, Rich held senior tax positions at Aetna (formerly Aetna Life & Casualty) and The Paul Revere Life Insurance Company. Rich spent the first decade of his career at a Big Six accounting firm. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) and a frequent speaker at the Insurance Tax Conference and Federal Bar Association’s Insurance Tax Seminar.
